‘The Last of Us Part III’: Everything We Know

Nearly four years after the release of ‘The Last of Us Part II’, we’re still waiting to see what’s next for the series.

Will there be a third entry in Naughty Dog’s brutal post-apocalyptic saga, or have we already seen it all? Here’s what we know.

There will probably be a third and final chapter

In February 2024, ‘Last of Us’ mastermind Neil Druckmann heavily suggested that ‘Part III’ was in the works.

“I’ve been thinking about it: Is there a concept there? And for now years I haven’t been able to find that concept. But recently that’s changed,” Druckmann said near the end of a documentary about the creation of ‘Part II’.

“I don’t have a story, but I do have that concept that, to me, is as exciting as 1, as exciting as 2, is its own thing and yet has this through line for all three. So it does feel like there’s probably one more chapter to this story.”

The last sentence pretty much confirms that ‘Part III’ is on the way. 

When will Part III be announced?

I hope you have some other games to play, because you’re going to be waiting a while for ‘Part III’. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for (sigh) 2026.

What is Naughty Dog’s next game?

While not official, it’s likely that the next Naughty Dog game is a new intellectual property, and has probably been in development for years now. At this time, we don’t know what genre or type of game it will be, but it will probably be a departure from the ‘Last of Us’ series. 

Druckmann recently made it clear to the LA Times that they “will not be ‘The Last of Us’ studio forever”.
