‘Furiosa’ Aims for $40M Opening Weekend
Hotly anticipated ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ prequel ‘Furiosa’ is on track for the biggest R-rated opening of the year so far. Deadline reports that the George Miller directed pic is estimated to gross $40M domestically and $45M abroad, over the 4-day holiday weekend.
The film, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, is the newest entry in the ‘Mad Max’ series, following 2015’s ‘Fury Road’, which earned $380M at the box office. ‘Furiosa’ has already earned high-marks from critics, with an exceptional 88% ‘fresh’ score at Rotten Tomatoes.
Here’s how Warner Bros. describes the film:
“As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
