What’s Christopher Nolan’s Next Film?
Nearly a year after the release of ‘Oppenheimer’, Christopher Nolan has yet to announce his next film. However, a March 2024 report from Variety has given us a little to bit to chew on.
Is ‘The Prisoner’ Nolan’s next film?
Variety states, vaguely, that “some say” Nolan’s next film will be a film adaptation of ‘The Prisoner’, as Nolan was once attached to direct the project back in 2009.
‘The Prisoner’ is an influential 1960s TV series starring Patrick McGoohan, and was previously remade as an AMC miniseries in 2009.
Here’s the official synopsis of the original series:
“A British secret agent known as Number Six is gassed and abducted, awakening in a seemingly idyllic seaside hamlet called The Village. He makes countless attempts to escape the eerily cheerful townspeople, who appear to be brainwashed.”
What about James Bond?
Nolan has long expressed interest in one day directing a James Bond film. But in November 2023, in response to a report alleging his involvement with the franchise, Nolan told AP there was “no truth” to the rumors.
The producers of the James Bond series are currently in the process of selecting the next actor for the role, after Daniel Craig concluded his tenure in 2021’s ‘No Time To Die’. Whoever directs the next installment is anyone’s guess.
What has Nolan said about his next film?
Nolan is characteristically tight-lipped about his next film, though he has stated in the past that he won’t direct another superhero movie. In a November 2023 interview with Variety, he suggested that his next film could be anything.
“I’m open to anything,” Nolan said. “But as a writer and director, whatever I do, I have to feel like I own it completely. I have to make it original to me: The initial seed of an idea may come from elsewhere, but it has to go through my fingers on a keyboard and come out through my eyes alone.”
